W sieć gruchnęła tajna notka, którą wysłał pan Bill Gates. Że to nieładnie czytać cudzą, zastrzeżoną korespondencję ? Cóż, może macie rację, ale kto powiedział, że na tym świecie są przestrzegane jakieś normy moralne, szczególnie gdy zapoznamy się z treścią owego listu ?

A w liście (datowanym na rok 1999) pan Gates zastanawia się, czy by nie wprowadzić rozszerzeń do ACPI, tak, by działały tylko z systemem Windows i z żadnym innym. A potem takie rozwiązanie opatentować.

To normalne ? Pewnie tak, w tumulcie walki z konkurencją różne chwyty się stosuje. Ale firma pana Gates’a została okrzyknięta objawieniem wieku i najważniejszym mentorem rozwoju informatyki. W zestawieniu z ‘ich’ metodami i rozumieniem postępu …

One thing I find myself wondering about is whether we shouldn’t try and make the “ACPI” extensions somehow Windows
specific. If seems unfortunate if we do this work and get our partners to do the work and the result is that Linux works great without
having to do the work. Maybe there is no way Io avoid this problem but it does bother me.
Maybe we could define the APIs so that they work well with NT and not the others even if they are open.
Or maybe we could patent something related to this.”
